Airport: Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV)
From the airport you can take a train or taxi into Tel Aviv (or any other city you may be staying in).
Taxis: Taxi's can be paid in cash (Shekels, not dollars). If you prefer to pay with a credit card, download the Gett Taxi app which is the equivalent to Uber. A taxi should cost no more than 200 NIS from the airport to Tel Aviv.
Currency Exchange: The Israeli currency is Shekels (NIS). We recommend exchanging currency before flying to Israel or inside Ben Gurion Airport.
WALKING
When visiting Tel Aviv, you'll find that the city is very pedestrian-friendly with a well-developed network of sidewalks and streets that are easy to navigate on foot. Many of the city's attractions and popular neighborhoods are within walking distance of each other, making it a convenient way to explore. If you prefer, you can also rent scooters or bicycles to get around, but be aware that street traffic can be heavy in the city.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
The city offers an efficient and affordable public transportation system with buses and light rail. Prior to your arrival, we recommend downloading the Moovit app for bus routes and times. It provides the most accurate routes and times of buses and trains throughout Israel, as well as updates any delays that may occur. Google maps is as great second option, but may not always be as accurate as Moovit,
TAXIS / GETT TAXI
Taxis are readily available and can be hailed on the street or ordered through the the Gett Taxi app. Uber & Lyft do not operate in Israel, and Gett Taxi is the local equivalent. With the app, you set a pick up location, destination, and it will quote you the price before requesting the ride. If you prefer to flag down a taxi on the street, we recommend always going "on the meter" rather than negotiating a price beforehand. This is typically cheaper or about the same as a pre-negotiated price.
CAR RENTALS
If you prefer to have your own transportation, you can rent a car. However, we don't recommend this if you're staying in Tel Aviv for most of your trip, as parking is difficult to find and traffic can be heavy. It may be more practical to rent a car if you plan on driving outside of the city and visiting other parts of the country. there are also options to take day tour shuttles directly from Tel Aviv.
